Pivotal CRM – Batch Record Creation w/o Importing

Demonstration of Pivotal CRM’s unique ability to create secondary data in a batch mode such as Alerts, Notes, or Orders across a selected list of Contacts, Companies or any custom entity. The demo shows how easily the feature is enabled for any entity and how it is controlled by existing Pivotal security groups.

The feature is able to dynamically read the relationships between tables through the Pivotal CRM business module and offer up a “Batch Add” menu item for any table where the adminstrator allows it for a given security group.  This is a great tool to quickly add associated data to existing records without having to go through the pain of the typical CRM system import tools, which are certainly easy but not this easy.  A great tool for business analysts, Marketers and easy and secure enough for CRM end-users.

Edit Pivotal CRM code while debugging

Most Pivotal developers learn to debug Pivotal CRM  client tasks using the Visual Studio “Debug –> Attach To Process”  method. However, what if you want to debug and edit your code on-the-fly. The normal process of attaching to the process does not allow this.

Solution: By setting the Debug –> Start External Program property you can launch the Pivotal Smart Client from the Visual Studio play button and gain the added benefit of editing your code on the fly. The obvious benefits are:

  • Time savings by not having to Attach To Process
  • Ability to edit your code without closing, re-compiling, re-opening the client, and repeating it all again

Locating your Smart Client executable is often an initial challenge for new Pivotal developers. Below is a typical path to the executable, where the “PivotalClient.PIVOTAL2”  happens to be the name of my deployment server.

C:\Users\steveroch\AppData\Local\CDC Software\Smart Client\PivotalClient.PIVOTAL2\exe\CdcSmartClientContainer32NoDEP.exe
